Kindness Challenge accepted!

Following our wonderful author visit with Donna Janell Bowman, I decided our students need to take Kindness Challenges during the month of April when it's easy to forget that we need to be kind to each other.  Challenge accepted!

Each colorful slip of paper has been signed by a student acknowledging they met at least one of the four challenges announced each week.

Hopefully, this will help our campus think and choose kindness all year but especially at the end of the school year!

Choose Kindness!

Our visiting author, Donna Janell Bowman, will be visiting with all of our students on April 2.  Her book, Step Right Up: How Doc and Jim Key Taught the World about Kindness, is on the 2018-2019 Texas Bluebonnet Award master list.  All classes have heard the book and have taken the Kindness Pledge Mrs. Bowman offers on her website.  We look forward to hearing more about the unique characters, Doc Key and his horse, Jim.

We will also celebrate the book birthday of her latest book, Abraham Lincoln's Dueling Words.

Author visit!!

One of the Texas Bluebonnet Award list authors visited our school today!  Peggy Eddleman is visiting our school district from her home state of Utah and we learned a lot about her, her books Sky Jumpers and The Forbidden Flats (Sky Jumpers #2).  We also learned about her writing process and some interesting personal facts as well.

The zombies are coming, the zombies are coming!

At least the author of a fantastic zombie series is coming to our school on September 23.  We are so excited to welcome James Ponti, author of the Dead City series, is visiting Carol Holt Elementary to talk with our 3rd and 4th graders about having a book on the Texas Bluebonnet Award list.
Omega Today, Omega Forever!

Time to vote!

Our 3rd and 4th graders will have the chance to vote for their favorite on the Texas Bluebonnet list.  They have to read five books on the list and turn in their reading log sometime during the week of January 23-27.  Their votes will be sent to Austin to be counted with others all around the state.
The Texas Bluebonnet winner will be announced in early February and all of our voters will celebrate the winning book soon after.

Click on the Texas Bluebonnet logo to find out more about this unique opportunity for students to have a say on a favorite book.
