Are you an eggs-pert?

Many other animals besides chickens come from eggs.  One of the books I like to share with students is An Egg is Quiet by Dianna Aston. I think you will like it, too!

Read it and see what you learn about eggs!

Time to vote!

Our 3rd and 4th graders will have the chance to vote for their favorite on the Texas Bluebonnet list.  They have to read five books on the list and turn in their reading log sometime during the week of January 23-27.  Their votes will be sent to Austin to be counted with others all around the state.
The Texas Bluebonnet winner will be announced in early February and all of our voters will celebrate the winning book soon after.

Click on the Texas Bluebonnet logo to find out more about this unique opportunity for students to have a say on a favorite book.

A guy with a "flaky" hobby

William "Snowflake" Bentley spent his whole life studying and photographing snowflakes. How cool is that??

This is a Caldecott Award winning biography about his life with lots of links to satisfy your curiosity about snow.  You can even make snowflakes yourself.  Follow the hotspots to find out more!

Hi! My name is Melvil Dewey!

This week, another librarian sent out a link to this video that is an excellent way to learn about Melvil Dewey and the Dewey Decimal System.  4th graders definitely learn about Dewey but I think 3rd and even 2nd grade would also learn from this as well.  Watch and find out for yourself!
Be careful - this song might get stuck in your head!!
